NECO; Everything you need to know

The National Examination Council(NECO) was established in 1999. NECO is an examination body established to conduct Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations(SSCE) in Nigeria. Other examinations conducted by NECO include Junior Secondary Certificate Examinations (JSCE), National Center on Education and the Economy(NCEE) Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the General Certificate in Education (GCE).

NECO was established by the then Head of States Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar to address the needs of examination within Nigeria. NECO serves as a national education outfit. NECO also subsidized registration fee for Nigerian students.

NECO is headed by the Registrar, who is appointed by the President of Nigeria. There are six departments in NECO each headed by a director.

By mid 2000, NECO conducted its first examination. Since the establishment of NECO, their offices have been established across the 36 states including FCT to oversee the running of its activities across the country. NECO head office is located at Km 8, Bida Road, P.M.B 159, Minna, Niger State

NECO has a custom built complex constructed for data processing technology which was built to help NECO with processing massive amount of data over a short period of time.

NECO during release of results operates 24hours with three shift intervals to help them cope with the workload from the NECO server.
