We are not yet confident for Safe Reopening of Schools- FG

The Federal Government said it does not have the confidence yet to proceed with reopening of schools in view of the increasing number of COVID-19 infections as released by the Nigeria Centre for Diseases Control.

The Minister of State for Education Chukwuemeka Nwajuba said this on wednesday while feeding questions from State House reporters at the 8th virtual Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Nwajuba said the decision from Federal Ministry of Education to suspend schools resumption plans and postpone participation in final examination for secondary school students remain intact.

The minister who said the ministry was still consulting stakeholders added that the West African Examination Council WAEC had also started consultation with West African States on the possibility of shifting dates.

He said the Federal Government is not confident that the environment is safe since the number from NCDC is alarming.

He said they are in discussion with other West African countries to shift the date for the WAEC Examination
